Adventures = Time & Memories to Cherish

Lehigh Gorge State Park (PA)

Ah, road trips and the fresh outdoors!

“Time is free, but it’s priceless. You can’t own it, but you can use it. You can’t keep it, but you can spend it. Once you’ve lost it you can never get it back.” – DreamQuote.com

We randomly chose a simple escape Saturday to Lehigh Gorge State Park for a walk. Time to: Refresh & Reset our inner selves! And yes, we would go back to explore more of the area. 🙂

I included a portion of the state park map below and put a pinkish dot where we parked. Then we just took the trail that followed along the Lehigh River. You can see marker numbers on the map 120, 121, 122… It was a flat trail that also had bikers on it. This wasn’t a strenuous hike through the mountains but definitely a peaceful walk – talking and hearing the river below. We also got to see a few people kayaking and whitewater rafting.

Things to do in the area (listed on the state park map):

  • Hiking: 33 miles of trail
  • Bicycling: 26 miles of trail
  • Snowmobile: 15 mile trail from Penn Haven to White Haven
  • Fishing: find your own secret fishing hole in the nearly 30 miles of river or its numerous tributaries
  • Whitewater rafting trips
  • Enjoy the view from the top of the Inclined Planes at Penn Haven
  • Photograph beautiful rhododendron along the Lehigh George Trail in July
  • Hickory Run State Park (campground), is near by (NOTE: we’ve never been here, just saw it listed)

Address in which we drove to: South Lehigh Gorge Drive, Weatherly, PA (I’m sure there are multiple locations, depending on what you’re looking to do). We parked in the last parking lot at the bottom.
